A Super Fun Day at Moors Valley Country Park, Dorset

by Jessica Amey

Last weekend we were invited to Moors Valley Country Park to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their steam train railway station. Moors Valley is near Ringwood in Dorset and has everything you need for a full day of fun including a mini steam train railway, Go Ape, loads of walks lined with play areas, a lake to feed the ducks and a bike hire shop so you can try out one of their many cycle routes. There is also a café.

We started our day with a ride on the steam train, I didn’t take any photos of this part but there is footage of it in the video at the bottom. Once we’d done that we headed over to the park, there are lots of play areas in the woods as well as two large parks near the picnic area and lake.

There was a field of cows near the park so we went over to say hi to them, and to jump off the tree trunk..

Then we headed over to feed the ducks before going for lunch.

After lunch was the part Cherry was really looking forward to, the Go Ape treetop walk. Luckily Tiger wasn’t tall enough to do it so I got to sit out with him whilst Mr C went up with Cherry. I have to admit that I am literally petrified of heights and just don’t think I could have done this but Cherry absolutely loved it and Mr C struggled to keep up with her!

You can see some footage of her going round and flying down the zip wire in the video, I was so impressed with how fearless she was, she definitely doesn’t take after me!!

After Go Ape we went to pick up some bikes and a trailer, Cherry took her own as it fits in our boot easily, she’s absolutely obsessed with riding her bike at the moment and would happily spend all day doing it. She loves being in front though and gets annoyed when she isn’t ‘winning’, it really makes me laugh how competitive she is as neither me nor Mr C are competitive at all!

The forest is huge and there were parts where you couldn’t see any other people which we love, some places feel too busy these days. This area was for den building, it was awesome, a huge space with loads of logs for building with.

I absolutely loved the bike ride, it’s the first time I’ve ridden one over ten years but we loved it so much we are going to get a bike rack for our car so we can go more often. There is something so amazing about forest air, it feels so fresh and clean.

We had such a good day and can’t wait to go back. If you are even near Bournemouth then I would definitely recommend visiting and if you are local then they have so much going on there. You can read all about it on their website.

Here is the little video I made of our day…

Thanks to Moors Valley for inviting us.
