Dyson Cordless Vacuum: Animal DC59 Review

by Jessica Amey

We’ve been putting the Dyson DC59 to the test over the last few weeks, here’s what we thought.

I’ve mentioned quite a few times that I’m not the tidiest of people, my bedroom floor always has piles of clothes all over it and my stairs always have a huge pile of things waiting to be taken upstairs (they usually have a long wait!).

I think there is a difference between mess and dirt though, I can handle living in a messy house but not a dirty one.

Cleaning just isn’t something I have much time to do though, it’s such a pointless job because it needs doing again within a few minutes. Take last night for example, I had just steam cleaned my kitchen floor when Mr C shook a bottle of orange juice not realising the lid wasn’t on properly and it spilled everywhere, he’s worse than the kids most of the time!

One of the things I cannot live without is a vacuum. I use one multiple times a day and it really can transform how the house looks in a very short amount of time (mainly because I have to clear everything off the floor before I vacuum!). I thought mine did a good job until I had the chance to compare it to this, the DC59 is a Dyson cordless vacuum and all I can say is WOW!!

I had about 20 seconds of trying it out using the power it arrived with and in that time I think it sucked up more dust than my other vacuum did in an hour! I was actually a bit shocked at just how dirty my carpets must have been.

I also couldn’t believe just how strong the suction was, it is SO powerful.

The main unit can be used as a handheld vacuum, it comes with a number of attachments.

Then you can attach the floor unit to turn it into a regular vacuum.

It comes with a Dyson docking station so you can just hang it up to re-charge when you have finished, we haven’t put this up yet, it requires a drill which means I will have to wait about six months for Mr C to get around to it!

It takes 3.5 hrs to charge and when fully charged you get 26 minutes cleaning time out of it and during that time the level of power stays the same which is a huge positive.

The filter is washable so lasts forever, it wasn’t all that long ago I discovered you had to change the filters in vacuums, it makes such a difference to their performance.

It’s really easy to empty, you just push a button over a bin.

I’m literally in love with it. I love how easy it is to just pick up and quickly vacuum the stairs / car.

The only thing I would change is for the battery to last longer. It’s fine for me as we don’t live in a very big house but I think if you had a lot of rooms you might need something corded. Although even in that situation I would still want one of these as it’s just so convenient for doing the little jobs.

At least now when I see Cherry putting her duvet on the floor to play I can relax in the knowledge the carpet has been cleaned properly.
