Ensuring You Sleep Well During The Warm Summer Nights

by Jessica Amey

There is a lot to love about summer, but one thing that can be particularly challenging during the hotter, sunnier days is getting a good night’s sleep.
Whether it’s because of the heat, or whether it’s the lighter evenings, sleep can be a real challenge for many in the summer months.

If you’re looking to get a great night’s sleep on these warm summer nights, below you’ll discover some of the best tips you can follow.

Take a hot shower or bath before bed
It might be the last thing you feel like doing when it’s super-hot outside but taking a hot shower or bath before bed can work wonders. When you get out of the hot water, your body temperature drops quickly, allowing you to feel much cooler.

Just make sure you keep a window open when having a hot bath or shower. If you don’t, it could increase the humidity in the home, which will ultimately make your sleep issues worse.

Ensure you’re wearing light, comfortable pyjamas
It may be tempting to wear nothing at all for bed when it’s hot and sticky. However, studies have shown that wearing light pyjamas can make you sleep better in the heat than if you were naked. So, treat yourself to some summer pyjamas and you should start to notice you sleep better through the night.

Invest in blackout blinds
One of the biggest challenges of getting to sleep in the summer, is the lighter evenings. The additional daylight hours can cause havoc for your natural body clock. So, if it’s still light outside when you’re going to sleep, you’ll want to put up some good quality blackout blinds.

The great thing about having blackout blinds rather than curtains, is they are a lot cooler and they black out the light more effectively.

Maintain a consistent bedtime
As the night’s are lighter, it’s common to stay up later than you usually would. This again can play havoc with your sleep cycle. So, try to maintain a consistent bedtime as much as you can. Of course, that doesn’t mean to say you can’t stay up a little later to enjoy the longer nights. Just ensure you get into a routine so you’re still going to bed at the same time every night.

Sleeping during the hotter, sunnier months can certainly be a challenge. However, the tips above can really help to ensure you get a good night’s rest despite the challenges the beautiful weather presents. Of course, you can also look to invest in cooler bedding, such as the pillows which come with a cool pack inside them to keep your head cool when it first hits the pillow. There are so many great sleep tips and aids you can use and the above are just some of them.
