Making Over Your Garden For The Summer Season

by Jessica Amey

I don’t know about you but I barely go in my garden over the winter months, once all the leaves have fallen off the trees and everything has died back it looks so miserable. Plus it’s usually rainy and freezing.

Then that first warm day comes and you hear everyone on your street mowing their lawn ready to enjoy some time outside again.

It can take a bit of effort to make it a nice space to be though, especially if you live somewhere windy (we do!) and the winter has left it looking a bit of a mess.

Here are a few things you can do to make over your garden for the summer months.

Re-paint any sheds that are looking a bit faded
There are so many bright colours of garden paint available these days that you don’t have to stick to the old shades of brown. You could even do it multi-coloured. This is our shed, I went for turquoise, pink and purple but you could opt for more neutral shades! It really transforms your garden.

Build some wooden pallet furniture
If you search this on Pinterest you will lots of wooden pallet garden furniture inspiration, I just love the idea of taking some old pallets which can be found cheaply and turning them into a sofa for your garden. Again you can paint these as brightly as you wish, matching them to your shed.

Plant some wildflowers
Not only do these look pretty but they are great for attracting bees and bees are so important for our eco-system. So many of our favourite fruits, vegetables and nuts rely on insect pollination. In the UK strawberries, raspberries, cherries and apples need to be pollinated by insects to get a good crop.

Check your fence panels
As I mentioned above we live in a super windy area as we are near the coast and our fence is in a pretty bad state after all the storms we’ve had lately. It might be possible to just replace a panel or you might need to replace the entire thin. If you aren’t able to do it yourself then checking the cost of a professional coming to install new garden fencing might be worthwhile.

Clean your patio
If you have a pressure washer then this is a super fun job! You can see the tiles going from dirty to clean with very little work involved. If you don’t then scrubbing them with a brush and water will also work. It can really brighten up your patio area.

Add a hot-tub
You can find second hand hot tubs for really reasonable prices these days, FB marketplace is a great place to look. This would really make your garden and exciting place to be! Being able to enjoy the long summer evenings whilst sitting in a hot tub with a nice drink sounds perfect.

Now we just need the warmer weather to hurry up and arrive!
