When it comes to your eyes, it’s important to take care of them and make sure you are doing everything you can to keep them healthy. Obviously this applies to your whole body but in this post I wanted to talk specifically about eyes.
So what can you do? Here are a few tips on how to look after your eyes.
Get them tested regularly
Eye tests don’t only check your eyesight but also look for other health problems and eye conditions that you might not have any symptoms of. The earlier these things are found, the easier they are to treat. Unlike a trip to the dentist, there isn’t much chance of an eye test being painful so there is no reason to avoid it! The NHS recommend getting an eye test every 2 years and lots of people do qualify for free tests so it’s worth checking that too.
Make sure your glasses have the right prescription
If you do wear glasses then make sure you wear ones that have the righ prescription. If you don’t they can strain your eyes and even give you headaches. SmartBuyGlasses UK offer a huge range of glasses and you can pick your prescription too.
Give up smoking
Smoking can increase the risk of certain eye diseases like age-related macular degeneration and cataracts.
Drink within guidelines
Heavy alcohol consumption can also increase the risk of age-related macular degeneration.
Protect your eyes from the sun
Looking at the sun is very dangerous and an can cause irreversible damage to eyes. Wearing a hat, cap or sunglasses is a good idea when out in the sun. Make sure the sunglasses you choose offer a safe level of UV protection.
Protect your eyes at work
If you work in a job where things can fly at your eyes then make sure you wear googles or suitable protection. Matt is a welder and he’s had to go to hospital a few times because of metal filings getting stuck in his eye, this is despite wearing protection as he also wears glasses and he thinks they rebound off the lenses.
