Travelling In Retirement

by Jessica Amey

I was recently commissioned by Premier Care to give my thoughts on the following topic…

Once you are finally free from the commitments of work, travelling can become a perfect way to fill your days. Obviously finances play a part but the great thing about travelling these days is that there are ways to do it, no matter what your budget.

Here are a few ideas of how you can enjoy travelling in your retirement.

Rent a home from home
The rise in popularity in companies like Air B&B mean that you can rent properties anywhere for a really reasonable price, and the properties are people’s homes so you can save money by cooking your own food instead of eating out.

Hire / Buy A Campervan
If you wanted to be a bit more adventurous then you could look at renting, or even buying, a campervan. To build up some confidence you could spend some time discovering parts of the UK that are new to you and then if you wanted some sun (because let’s face it, even in summer you can’t rely on any here!) you could head over to Europe.

Go On A Cruise
There are some cruise ships that are tailored towards retired people so you can be assured that everything will suit you and you will be guaranteed to make friends given that there will be so many other people on board. I don’t think this will ever be a good one for me as I get sea sick but if I didn’t then I would love to!

Active holidays
If you are into fitness and enjoy being active then why not look at a walking or cycling holiday, sitting down and relaxing by the pool isn’t for everyone and getting out and about is a great way to really see somewhere.

Blow the budget holidays
If you have managed to save up lots of money over the years then why not look into that special, once in a lifetime, holiday. For me it would have to be a safari in Africa but I wouldn’t say now to a tropical resort either, the ones where you have a lodge right in the water!

Single holidays
If you are single but still want to travel then why not look into singles holidays, there are so many out there these days and it’s a great way to meet people who share the same interests as you.

Hope you enjoyed these ideas, happy travelling!
