3 Ways To Make Your Bathroom More Eco-Friendly And Save Money

by Jessica Amey

We are all looking for ways to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle, and the way that you design your home is a big part of that. A lot of people are using more efficient appliances or smart thermostats in the home to reduce the amount of energy that they use. But the bathroom is one area where people forget to consider eco-friendly design, which can be a big problem. If you want to design an eco-friendly bathroom, these are some of the most important things to consider.

Water Usage

Most people pay close attention to the amount of electricity and gas that they use at home, but what about water? Water usage is a big problem and there may be shortages in the future if we cannot find ways to cut back on the water we use. The bathroom is the best place to start, and there are some great eco-friendly solutions.

When you are choosing fixtures like the toilet, sink, and shower, you should always look for the low water usage options. There are some great low flow faucets and showers that are just as effective as a standard one, and they use a lot less water. Toilets with a smaller cistern that use less water per flush are great as well, and they also take up less room so they work well if you are designing a small bathroom.

If you do not have the money to pay for a new toilet, you can buy inflatable bags or rubber bricks that go in the cistern. This is an effective way to reduce the amount of water used in each flush and get the same effect without replacing the toilet.

Lighting

Traditional lights are very inefficient compared to a lot of the new products on the market. This is one simple change that you can make to save a lot of energy and cut your bills at the same time. You can get some great led ceiling lights that are perfect for the bathroom, and they use a fraction of the energy that a normal incandescent bulb does. They also last a lot longer, so you don’t need to worry about changing the bulb for years or even decades, in some cases. If you have lighting around the mirror, you can use led strip lighting to save more energy.

Cleaning Chemicals

A lot of the cleaning products that you can buy are made with nasty chemicals that are not great for the environment. They also have a negative impact on the air quality in your home, so you should look for some better alternatives. There are a lot of great green cleaning products on the market right now, which are made with natural ingredients. However, if you want to save even more money, you could consider making your own with cleaning products with simple household ingredients like white vinegar and baking soda.

These simple changes will help you to create a more eco-friendly bathroom and save you a lot of money at the same time, so what are you waiting for?
