Tiger is now an 8 month old baby and is starting to look like more of a little boy instead of a baby.
We had a few really good weeks at the start of the month where he was a lot happier and started sleeping for a nine hour stretch at night. That has definitely changed again now though!!
I think it’s because his top two teeth have starting moving down, he’s been waking up every hour to two hours at night and has been really cranky in the day again. I don’t remember Cherry’s teeth causing that much of an issue at all but Tiger has really struggled with them.
I’ve made a few changes to his bedtime routine. I realised yesterday that with Cherry the sleep expert told me to feed her at the start instead of just before putting her in the cot, I have just started doing this with Tiger too. Last night I fed him downstairs then took him up and brushed his teeth, changed his nappy and sang him Twinkle Twinkle Little Star before putting him in his cot, I will replace that with a story once he is a bit older but he doesn’t like sitting to listen to them yet. I wondered whether he would object to this new routine but he was absolutely fine, went straight to sleep and did a longer stretch than previous nights, he did still wake a lot though but he’s all snotty today so I’m guessing he’s getting another cold.
The other big change I have put into place is to start putting him in his cot for naps. I think I am doing this even later than I did with Cherry but I didn’t want to give up all the daytime cuddles too soon as he is (probably) going to be our last baby. Looking back though it was actually a bit unfair on Cherry as she didn’t ever get any time with me to herself.
She’s been so much happier for the last few days and I’m sure it’s because I get a few hours to focus on just her when he’s napping. She loves it but has taken to asking me to ‘take him for a little nap’ every five minutes!
Tiger as an 8 month old baby has taken to napping in his cot really well and has been sleeping for about 2-3 hours a day up there split over two naps. I think he will get a much better quality of sleep upstairs too as there aren’t as many distractions.
Solids have been going well, he is so different to Cherry who would only eat a couple of different things. He eats pretty much anything I give him which makes life a lot easier, although I am aware that he will still be fussy as a toddler, they all seem to be!
Breastfeeding is still going well, I was thinking the other day about how I had stopped feeding Cherry in public by the time she was six months as I felt like she was too old. It’s so different this time, he still feels very much like a baby and I wouldn’t think twice about feeding him if I was out. He still feeds on demand and he can make it clear when he wants milk, he does a special type of moan and flings his head back and to the side to get into position, it’s funny. I’ve got no set time in my head of when we will stop and will carry on until it comes to a natural end, in the same way I did with Cherry.
He’s saying Mama and Dada and has started pulling himself up onto furniture and walking along it, in fact the other day he got to the end and I think he thought he could walk. He just let go! Although because he can’t walk he just spun around and fell over, bless him. He is desperate to be on his feet like Cherry so I will be interested to see when he starts walking, although I’m in NO rush for it to happen!!
He is at that stage where you have to keep an eye on him at all times otherwise you find him with a mouthful of paper or under the table eating old food. His favourite toy at the moment is my old mascara tube or the thing he is holding in the photo below.
In the photo above Tiger is wearing a rather lovely Grobag from The Gro Company. We are big fans of Grobags, I’m not sure what we would do without them. They stop the covers being kicked off and mean they don’t wake up cold. We own about five ranging from 1 tog to 2.5 tog but this one is extra special as it is 3.5 tog. I had no idea they actually went up this high but it’s absolutely perfect for Winter. It’s so thick and soft and comes in a unisex design so can be used for both boys and girls. They come in so many different designs and types and I would recommend them to any new parent.
So that’s it for my 8 month old baby update.
