Top Ten Tips For Taking Festive Photographs

by Jessica Amey

Christmas is fast approaching and I’m really looking forward to taking some festive photos this year.

I bought an entry level DSLR over a year ago and my interest in photography has grown a lot since then. I still don’t always know what I’m doing but I’ve been reading lots of books and trying to understand it all. At the moment it’s just a case of taking a million photos until I find one that I like but over time I’m hoping to master the settings more and start using full manual mode.

I would like to upgrade my camera to a newer model so I’ve been dropping lots of hints to Mr C. There are also a couple of new lenses I would like to add to my collection but for now I would just be happy with a newer camera, this photography business can get rather expensive!

One of the things I love though is how it’s sparked an interest in photography for Cherry. She’d wanted a camera for ages so we bought her one for her birthday last month. It’s just one of the kids ones but it’s fab as it’s really sturdy so she can drop it without it breaking. She loves using it and always comes to join me when I’m taking photos of things. It does make me laugh how she thinks we have to take photos of everything. Whenever we have an item to review turn up I always have to tell her to wait until we’ve taken photos of it so now she thinks it’s just what you do. Once we got home from the supermarket and she thought we needed to take photos of the toilet paper before we opened it!

No doubt she will be joining me in taking some festive photos this year, I expect they will be of her new favourite toys – Care Bears!

The infographic below has some great tips for taking festive photos and I am definitely going to be trying the heart shaped bokeh photos.

I’m also hoping for some snow so we can get out in that and take photos.
