This dreamcatcher tutorial really is so easy, you can knock one up in no time and customise it to match your colour scheme.
I’m a little bit obsessed with dreamcatchers. I shared my first dreamcatcher tutorial about 18 months ago over on my craft blog, it shows you how to make crochet dreamcatchers and it’s probably one of my most successful tutorials. Then recently I started an Etsy store to sell the crocheted dreamcatchers that I’ve become addicted to making (you can see them all in my sidebar).
I wanted to post a tutorial for those who can’t crochet though, this is a super simple way to make a dreamcatcher and it’s quick too. It only took about ten minutes.
You will need:
– A dreamcatcher hoop (mine is from The Works, will explain more at the bottom of the page)
– T-Shirt Yarn
– A large plastic needle
– Scissors
Step 1: Start by cutting off a long piece of t-shirt yarn and wrapping it around the dreamcatcher hoop, you need to leave a long piece at the start and a long piece at the end as once tied together these will make up one of the tassels coming off the bottom.
Step 2: Next you need to thread a long piece of t-shirt yarn through the needle and go through one of the loops of yarn around the hoop. Do it about an inch from where you tied the last piece and leave a long bit as again this will make up one of the tassels.
Step 3: Thread the yarn through various loops around the hoop, you can do it anywhere you like but aim to go back to where you started so you can tie the two long bits together.
Step 4: Repeat this step, with a different colour yarn if you wish. This time start an inch to the other side.
Step 5: Next tie on lots more piece of t-shirt yarn to the bottom of the dreamcatcher and tie a little piece onto the top so you can hang it up.
And that’s it. I told you it was simple!
A note about the dreamcatcher hoops, I buy mine from The Works as they come in a set with beads and string for just £1! They are such a bargain. I actually get a lot of my supplies from The Works, and they have a great range of craft books too, all at such good prices. You can view the range here: crafts at The Works.
