So I just want to start by saying that I very rarely accept toy reviews on here, but when my kids are really into a certain type of toy, in this case LOL Surprise Dolls, and I receive an email asking if we would like to review one of the new LOL Surprise Biggie Pets then obviously there was no way I could turn it down!
Cherry has been into LOL Dolls for the last few months and is obsessed with them so I knew she would absolutely love to review one of these. I do feel like I need to cover a couple of issues I have with LOL Dolls as although Cherry is mad about them, as a parent I would love to see a few changes!! I completely see why little girls love them and I definitely would have done myself as a child, however, I think they are really overpriced. The normal LOL Dolls are £11 and they are tiny!! Plus they are sold in blind bags so there is every chance that you could end up with a duplicate, now that is annoying enough when buying Shopkins at £2.50 (we had a case of three sets of exact duplicates) but paying £11 for something that could turn out to be exactly the same as something you already own is a pretty depressing thought. At least if you knew what one you were getting then it would make paying out for them a bit less painful. Obviously I know the surprise element would be taken away and not as many would be sold but I’m sure parents would be a lot happier!! My other issue is all the single use plastic, the ball itself comes in about 3 layers of it. It would be nice to see companies like this making more of a step towards reducing their plastic waste. Obviously a lot of toy companies need to start looking at this going forward.
However they are my thoughts and at the end of the day Cherry receives a certain amount of pocket money and if she chooses to save up for LOL Dolls then I completely understand that is her choice, and equally I don’t ban her from buying plastic products as I don’t feel like that would have my desired effect of raising her to care about the planet, instead I educate her and try to make as many changes myself for her to see.
At the end of the day if companies make toys that are a hit with kids then it really doesn’t matter what the parents think and I would say LOL Surprise have definitely made toys that are a hit with kids. Luckily the Biggie Pets don’t come in blind bags so you can choose which one you want, Cherry got MC Hammy, the hamster. It can be used as a bag or piggy bank and inside there are lots of surprises including a few mini pets and all the accessories. Cherry absolutely loves it!
Again, I can’t really say I think it’s worth the money but if Cherry wanted to save for one or put it on her birthday / Xmas list then of course I would buy it. I’m sure both of those lists will mainly feature LOL Dolls this year!!
The LOL Biggie Pets are currently on sale for £36.99 and you can read all about them on the LOL Surprise website.
